Operations at NIM Master:

1] add CLIENT to MASTER database.

smit nim_mkmac
type in name of target machine [client].

Accept the defaults, nothing to do any thing extra.

2] add CLIENT to bootlist.

smit nim_bosinst
select ‘client’ from list.

Select “rte” as installation type.

Select ‘lpp_source’ and ‘spot’ resources.

Change two options about licenses, to ‘yes’ from defaults ‘no’

If client is running and accessible via ‘rsh’ from master then no further change required. Just
completing this operation would result in client booting from master.
Then follow normal procedure same as we does in CD/DVD installation.
If the client is not running, change option of ‘initiate the reboot of client’ from YES to NO and complete the operation.
Check status of client by “lsnim –l ‘client_name’

3] if client is not up and we required it to boot through NIC follow these steps
These steps varies as per firmware versions, steps listed here are generic ones.

Boot to SMS menu

Go to ‘setup remote IPL’ menu.
Go to IP Parameters’ menu, some firmware may ask to select ETH adapter.
Set client ip, client subnet, client gateway, master IP. For same subnet gateway is not needed it can be 0.0.0.0.
Go back to ‘setup remote IPL’ and select ‘ping’ option. If ping works go further if not change ETH adapter or cable.
Go to ‘select boot option’ menu
Go to ‘select install device’
Select proper ETH adapter
4] for reseting client state.

smit nim_mac_op
Select ‘reset’
Change two options from ‘no’ to ‘yes’ and complete operation.
Start from step 2.
