is written and directed by Mason Richards.Mason constructed the narrative loosely based on childhood memoriescombined with a fictional narrative thread. This project is veryspecial. Principle photography began in August of 2009 on location inbeautiful Guyana. The film is Mason’s thesis project with CalArts (California Institute of the Arts) and he aspires to eventually turn the short film into a feature.Mason took his first trip ever back to Guyana in the summer of 2008after having been away in the US for many years. He maintained hisGuyanese passport and after spending some time “home” in Guyanahe was inspired to write the script for THE SEAWALL.
Additionally to making this film, Mason will also be conductingand 2-day film workshop with students at The University of Guyana because after having visiting the school, he learned thatdue to lack of funding, the university does not have adequateequipment or courses to teach students filmmaking. His goal isto give back some of what he has learned as a filmmaker byteaching a fundamental filmmaking course with professionalequipment and crew from the United States. He then plans tohave few of the students to work on the film shoot in Guyana.
THE SEAWALL will be made in part by sponsorship by FROG.
