The death this week of Osama bin Laden broughtback a torrent of memories of the Sept. 11, 2001,terrorist attacks for families and friends of victims.In the aftermath of the attacks, the stories of LGBTvictims slowly emerged, from Father Mychal Judge,who died ministering to fallen firefighters in New York,to Mark Bingham, who helped bring down UnitedAirlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania before it could reachits intended target in Washington.Alice Hoagland, Bingham’s mother, reflected on thekilling of the terrorist leader.“I think it is a point in time of which the Americanpeople can be very proud, which we can take stockin and realize how very valuable our intelligencecommunity and our military are,” Hoagland said in anNBC interview.In Washington, local residents streamed to the WhiteHouse late Sunday night as news of bin Laden’s killingemerged. A California congressman this week introducedlegislation that would bar discrimination against LGBTpeople in adoption cases while calling on PresidentObama to endorse the bill “wholeheartedly.”During a news conference, Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.),the sponsor of the legislation, known as the Every ChildDeserves a Family Act, said he wants the White Houseto support his bill fully in response to a question fromthe Washington Blade on what he’d like to see fromthe administration on the issue.“I’d like to see the administration support ourposition more definitively,” Stark said. “I’ve had sometroubles often determining where the administration ison issues, and I think it’s time that President Obamasteps up to the bar and makes this — supports itwholeheartedly.”Shin Inouye, a White House spokesperson, said in
