Timing chain for CIH engines You'll note in the second pic that when the cam drive gear "timing dimple" is at7 o'clock, the cam dowel is at 12 o'clock . . . much easier to see on an engine with justthe valve cover removed.Simple text for CIH engine timing with just valve cover removed:1. Align flywheel ball with pointer at right side of engine.2. If cam dowel at 12 o'clock, ignition timing is for #4 cylinder.3. Turn crank 360 degrees and align flywheel ball with pointer.4. Cam dowel now at 6 o'clock, ignition timing is for #1 cylinder.CIH Timing Note: When flywheel ball is aligned with pointer, cam dowel can only beat 12 or 6 o'clock if valve timing (cam to crank) is correct!!
