Egg Dropping Experiment

Question:
In an experiment you always start with a
question or wondering, even something you
want to test. In this case it was ‘how can we Observations:
keep an egg from breaking when dropped from Then we observe what sort of things can absorb
a height. force or lessen gravity. We need these sorts of
things if we don’t want the egg to break. We also
know that if the egg bounces off the floor, it breaks.
We chose folded paper to absorb force and straws
to keep it from bouncing. Observations are also
Hypothesis: what we already know.
The hypothesis is a statement of what will happen
and it has to make sense. It really is just a guess but
it’s at least an educated guess. Our hypothesis was
‘our egg will not break because the folded paper will
absorb the force, straws will keep it from bouncing
and clay will cushion it.

Experiment:
Doing the experiment is seeing if our hypothesis can be
proved. The whole thing must be organised
and results must be recorded. We made our contraption
(egg covered in bubble wrap in 2 layers of folded paper,
coated with clay and straws sticking out) and threw it out
the window for the test. Mr. Glenn videoed it all.

Analyzing, Conclusion and Theory:

Analyzing is what happened. Our analysis is: clay and straws
came off in the air then the egg ended up with ‘scrambled’
written all over it. Conclusion is why it happened. Clay and
straws came off because the contraption wasn’t put together
properly. The theory is a statement that is always right no matter
what the situation. Our theory is: even if it is covered in impact Peach
absorbing materials, the object still has a high chance of breaking
if there are no soft materials and it is too big because it is heavy.
