Backup Content Database and Site
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services uses a database to storeand manage site content. Just as each virtual server can host multipletop-level Web site, each virtual server can rely on multiple contentdatabases to store site content. To take the backup of the site successfully follow these steps.
To back up a content database by using CentralAdministration
1. Identify the content database of WSS site from Central admin.1.1, Start -> Central Administration > ApplicationManagement >Content Databases1.2, Select Web application and find database name.2. Open SQL server management studio and select the Databaseidentified in previous step.3, Right click database → properties → options → Db-read only →False.4, From properties → select path of the mdf and ldf files.5, Copy both files.
To back up a site using stsadm command
1. Start -> run -> cmd.2, Type cd\ -> press enter key.3, Type cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\webserver extensions\12\BIN4, Type stsadm.exe -o backup -url <url of the site> -filename<filename.dat>5, Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\webserver extensions\12\BIN , there you can find the .dat file ie. thebackup file of the site.
