AND WATER CONSERVATION PRACTICESIntroduction to Soil and Water Conservation Practices is the first title in thePractical Guide to Dry/and farming Series, a set of booklets initially puttogether for upland farmers in the Nusa Tenggara Provinces of southeasternIndonesia. Originally published in 1985, this revised edition includes updatedinformation on soil and water conservation technologies. Many of the revi-sions are based on the experiences of upland farmers in East Nusa Tenggarawho have been using the practices in the original booklet on their own farmsover the last few years.Other booklets in this expanding series cover aspects of dryland farmmanagement such as contour farming with living barriers, planting tree crops, animal husbandry, integrated farming, and on-farm experimentation. The Practical Guide to Dry/and Farming Series is collaborative effort betweenWorld Neighbors, Studio Driya Media and Yayasan Tananua in Indonesia, with additional input from several other grassroots organizations workingthroughout the region. These booklets were designed to be used togetherwith farmers extension agents, or program personnel who are already somewhatfamiliar with the practices described. The methodologies discussed arespecifically applicable to the conditions found in the semi-arid regions ofsoutheastern Indonesia; some of the practices, therefore, may not be applicablein areas with different climates, soils, or farming traditions. If you have any questions about the material contained in this publicationor others in the Dryland Farming Series, please contact World Neighbors.Comments and suggestions are welcome as well!English versions* of the Practical Guide to Dry/and Farming Series can beordered from:World Neighbors5116 North Portland AvenueOklahoma City, OK 731: 2U.S.A.Indonesian language versions can be ordered from:Studio Driya MediaJI.
