Death comes with many superstitions. There are different onesfor different cultures. Africans believe that if a baby dies, it must be buried ³far away from your house, with proper magic and incantations and gifts for the gods´ so that it will not come back asa new child and die again. Bobo says she does not believe in this, but acknowledges that she wasalmost a ³Coming-Back Baby´ herself.The family originally has two children: Vanessa and Adrian. ³Adrian dies before he isold enough to talk,´ and their mother¶s ³picture-perfect´ life is shattered. The family moves back to England where Bobo is born. Olivia is the next child born. She dies, and the family goes onholiday. Eventually, they move to Devuli. Richard is the fifth and last child to be born. He dies before he can leave the hospital, and the parents go on a ³holliday.´ Again, the family moves,this time to Malawi.Whenever something bad happens, especially when a child dies, the family not onlydrinks their sorrows away, but they run from their problems, from the memories. Bobo¶s mother is ³living with the ghosts of her dead children.´ ³Her sentences and thoughts are interrupted bythe cries of her dead babies.´ Olivia is the only one to get a ³proper funeral.´ The other two,Adrian and Richard are buried in unmarked graves. There is nothing from a proper funeral tohold the two down. ³It doesn¶t take an African to tell you that to leave a child in an unmarked
