Livelihoods Approach toDevelopment
here have been several experiments indevelopment, in our country and other parts of the world too
Basically two approaches have been tried : (i)when the development programme is designedby State or other agency or individual andthought to benefit the people in general andpoor in particular and (ii) when people arehelped to design their own developmentprogramme, based on their endowments, skillset, market demand, factor conditions etc.
he second one is popularly known as LivelihoodsApproach to Development
Livelihoods approaches are a way of thinkingabout the objectives, scope and priorities fordevelopment
It places people and their priorities at the centreof development not the programme
It focuses poverty reduction interventions onempowering the poor to build on their ownopportunities, supporting their access to assets, and developing an enabling policy andinstitutional environment
