4-H Exhibit Week

Plymouth County 4-H held the annual 4-H Exhibit

Week April 18-22. 4-H Clubs participated and
helped to educate the public about their 4-H Clubs.
Below are a few photos from exhibit week. Thank
you to all who participated and congratulations to
the following clubs for their top placings!

 Massachusetts 4-H Horse Bowl
The Massachusetts 4-H Horse Bowl Contest was
held on April 9-10 and Plymouth County was well
represented.
Senior 4-H’ers Paige Mechan, Becky McPherson
and Brittany Pothier all qualified in Buzzer Boards
to compete at the National 4-H Horse Round-Up
this fall. Paige also qualified for the Hippology
portion of the contest. There were several seniors
who placed just out of the top 10 for Horse Judging
and will have the opportunity to try again next year
for a spot on the National 4-H Horse Round-Up.
The Plymouth County 4-H Junior teams placed 3rd
in Buzzer Boards and 10th in Hippology and 2nd for
Horse Judging! Congratulations!
Thank you again to our judges: Reva Levin, Horse
Judging; Priscilla McGilvary, Hippology and Paige
Pongratz, Buzzer Board. Below are some pictures

National 4-H Congress
Massachusetts 4-H will be sending a delegation to
National 4-H Congress this fall on November 25-29,
2011. This event provides tremendous opportunity for
Plymouth County 4-H members, ages 15-18 to meet and
interact with 4-H members from across the country
while taking part in an educational experience. It is
designed to address the needs and issues of youth while
helping to develop capable, competent citizens. Please

information on this exciting event.
To apply for National 4-H Congress please see the
application at www.mass4h.org Go to programs, then
Leadership for a form. Applications are due May16,
2011 in the Plymouth County 4-H Office. Contact
Molly Vollmer for more details.
Animal Lease Forms Due
4-H Animal Lease Forms are now called 4-H Animal
Verification Forms. The Animal Verification Forms are
due to the Plymouth County Extension Office later this
spring. 4-H’ers who lease an animal must turn one of
these forms in to the Plymouth County Extension Office
to participate in various 4-H shows throughout the
summer and fall. Please call the Extension Office at
781-293-3541 with questions. Please look at the
following due dates for each species:
May 1- Beef and Dairy
June 1- Sheep, Goats, Swine, Llamas, Alpacas,
Poultry
4-H’ers may lease any type of animal including dogs and
other small animals. Please contact Molly Vollmer with
questions about how to have 4-H’ers participate.
4-H Walk
Plymouth County 4-H Walk will be held May 13 at
the Cape Cod Canal from 5:30-7:30. Please join us
for an evening of healthy activities and a picnic
dinner. 4-H families are welcome to come, please
RSVP if you plan to attend to Molly Vollmer so we
can plan for food. Clubs can also get sponors for
their walk. See packet with this newsletter for more
information.
4-H Awards Program

Plymouth County 4-H Awards program was held on
April 16 for 4-H members, volunteers and families.
Thank you to Lisa Zadrozny and 4-H Teen Council for
the delicious homemade baked ziti dinner! And a big
thank you to Judy Yanchuk and members of Thunder
Over and Under and 4-H Teen Council for the wonderful
decorations and flowers. Linda Schauwecker ran
another successful 4-H Silent Auction, with proceeds
going to the 4-H Advisory Council. Thank you to the
entire Plymouth County 4-H Advisory Council for
providing funding and support for this awards program.
Also thank you to special guests County Commissioner
Anthony O’Brien, John Burnett, Jeff Chandler, Marge
Mahoney and Joe Freitas from the Plymouth County
Extension Board of Trustees for their continued support
of Plymouth County 4-H.
Thank you to Reva Levin for donating the 4-H “Swing
for the Fences” Award. Thank you to volunteers Cathy
and Dave Acampora, Amanda Arruda, Steve and Bonnie
Mills, Tracy Null, and Susan Peavey for their help with
prep for the event.
Plymouth County 4-H Teen Council members help
to set up the hall for the 4-H Awards program.

4-H Teen Council
4-H Teen Council is hosting a fundraiser and 4-H
Recruitment event at Hanson Grain on May 14.
Please stop by and say hello to our teen 4-H’ers! 4-
H Teen Council has also agreed to help with the 4-
H Sunflower Contest at the Marshfield Fair and a
variety of other summer programs. Please call PCE
for more information on joining this club!
Plymouth County 4-H Camperships
and Scholarships
The Plymouth County 4-H Advisory Council will again
be offering camperships to Plymouth County 4-H’ers
who would like to attend a Massachusetts 4-H Summer
Program or 4-H summer camp like 4-H Camp Farley.
Please email Molly Vollmer at
mvollmer@umext.umass.edu or call 781-293-3541 to
request a copy of the campership form. All forms must
be submitted to the Plymouth County 4-H Advisory
Council at least 6 weeks before the camp or as soon as
possible before the event.
The Plymouth County 4-H Advisory Council would also
like to remind all graduating seniors that the 4-H Gilbert
P. Robery Scholarship is available for those pursuing a
degree in Animal or Veterinary Sciences. Each year the
4-H Advisory Council gives out a $1000 scholarship to a
male and female 4-H’er who are looking to further their
education in animal studies. Please contact Molly

Goat Fitting and Showmanship Clinic
Hoof-n-Whiskers 4-H club will be hosting a 4-H
Fitting and Showmanship Clinic to assist the
Northeast Dairy Goat National Show Association in
bringing the National Show to the Northeast. The
clinic will be run by local dairy goat owners Briana
LaFoe from Fox’s Pride Dairy Farm and Beth
Corbett and Jen Abdelnour of Ladies Choice Farm.
The cost will be $10 per person and ALL proceeds
will go to the NDGNSA. A lunch of hamburgers
and hotdogs will be available for an additional $3.
Every participant will need to bring their own
animal to work on, sharing an animal is acceptable
but a separate entry fee for each participant will be
needed. Participants will also need to have all their
own grooming supplies. For the protection of our
animals every animals must have an up-to-date
health form.
Registration forms are due by June 1 to Jack

Marshfield Fair 4-H Auction mvollmer@umext.umass.edu
We are looking for help with the planning and “Learn by Doing”
coordination of the 4-H Auction at the Marshfield
Fair. Please contact Molly Vollmer if you are
interested in helping the 4-H Fair Committee
organize this fundraising event. We are also
looking for donations of new items, gift certificates,
event tickets, etc for the auction. If you or your 4-H
club could help to collect and solicit donated items
it would be greatly appreciated. All proceeds from
the auction will go to the Plymouth County 4-H
Advisory Council for program support and
scholarships or 4-H programs at the Marshfield

Marshfield Fair 4-H Day

WEDNESDAY, August 24. Agricultural
Awareness/ 4-H Day will now be on Wednesday
during the Marshfield Fair. This is a change from
previous years, please plan ahead to participate in 4-
H activities this day.

4-H Day Activities will no longer have premiums

attached to the placing. 4-H’ers who participate
will receive ribbons for their participation and also
be invited to have a pizza dinner on 4-H day. NO
PREMIUMS WILL BE AWARDED. We hope to
have several 4-H’ers participate in this fun day.
The 4-H T-shirt contest, tractor contest, obstacle
course, costume parade and other activities will still
be offered.

Marshfield Fair Exhibitor Book

The Marshfield Fair Exhibitor Handbook will no
longer be mailed to participants. All entry forms
and information will be available online at
www.marshfieldfair.org Please check this website
during the late spring for updated information and
dates for the 2011 Fair. If you do not have access to
the website please contact the Extension Office
