Dynamic commissural splint

Microstomia may results as a sequel of burns due to contraction of tissue and hypotonia

of circumoral musculature leading to esthetic and functional abnormality. This article

describes a method of fabricating a dynamic commissural splint that provides physical

resistance to scar contraction and there maintaining the opening. Material and method –

diposable 2ml syringe was used. The nozzle of the barrel and rubber of the plunger was

removed. A spring of minimum force of 0.3 N is placed inside the barrel and the plunger

placed over it . On both the ends acrylic rods are attached . the spring keeps the hooks

apart. Hooks hold the mouth opening apart.
