ASSIGNMENT B GROUP RESEARCH PRESENTATION: 40%


Assignment due by 16th May 2011: Feedback due by 3rd June 2011.

Presentations will take place in lecture and seminar sessions as shown on the schedule.
You are required to work in a GROUP of 4/5 to carry out secondary research of a market, to be
allocated by your seminar tutor in order to prepare and make a 20 minute presentation and to
suggest methods to conduct further primary research.
 You should form a group by week 8 and complete and hand or e-mail a Group Record Sheet
to your semester tutor by 12.00 noon on 25th March (note that this is worth 5 marks).
 If you do not submit the Group Record Sheet you will forfeit these 5 marks.
 Groups MUST BE ONLY BE DRAWN FROM WITHIN YOUR SEMINAR GROUP
 If you DO NOT JOIN A GROUP you will also lose these 5 marks and will either be put into an
ad hoc group or have to do the assignment by yourself. If you are not in a group contact your
seminar tutor as soon as possible.

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that groups are formed and work effectively.

Your presentation should include identification and discussion of: mks


i. market definition, size, main segments, trends and projections (value/volume) 20
ii. main market competitors; their market share and strengths/weaknesses 10
iii. main channels of distribution; their market share and strengths/weaknesses 10
iv. a market entry opportunity, with justification and your positioning & competitive strategy 15
v. with reference to three specific research objectives, what primary research may be
used to supplement the secondary research you carried out (with justification) 25
You will also be awarded marks for:
vi. submission of the group Record Sheet by week 8 5
vii. structure, quality of slides, verbal presentation and flow 10
viii. correct and complete Harvard referencing/bibliography (min six academic/information
sources: failure to reference correctly will result in a 40% cap) 5
Self Assessment:
In addition, you should INDIVIDUALLY complete a Self Assessment which records your role and
contribution to the work. This does not carry marks but it may affect the final mark awarded to you;
if necessary you may be asked to attend an interview

Due in at the iZone on 16th May 2011


Plagiarism and collusion will be heavily penalised and may result in failure of the
assessment and/or module and/or exclusion from the University.
Work not correctly referenced (including data sources) will be capped at 40%.
Work DOES NOT need submitting to Turn It In.

Deliverables and submission:


Students should submit to the iZone by the due date:
 ONE copy of your group’s presentation (as a four or six per page handout)
 ALL of your group’s Self Assessments
 ONE Feedback Sheet, ensuring that ALL of the group’s names/st numbers are listed

Bring a handout of your slides to the presentation (presentation dates to be announced).

You are required to work in a GROUP of 4/5 to carry out secondary research of a market to
prepare and make a 20 minute presentation and to suggest methods to conduct further research.

As a group, you must, by the 16th MAY 2011 submit at the iZone*
 ONE joint copy of your presentation (print as a handout 4/6 to view); note that you
CANNOT change the presentation after submission
 INDIVIDUAL Group Assignment Self Assessments for each group member

*NB: Please also bring a copy of the slideshow (as a handout as above) to the presentation and
give it to your seminar tutor.
