Abby McIntyre Lit/ Lang Questions C.)I would/ wouldn’t consider doing what Juliet decided to do because…

Response:

I would have never considered doing what Juliet did because in my mind Friar Lawrence’s plan was way too extreme! You can really tell that Friar Lawrence put little thought into his plan and that it was made up on the spot. If he thinks it would be safe for Romeo to come back to Verona and rescue Juliet from the Capulet mausoleum from her fake death, then why would it be any different for Romeo to come save Juliet when she wasn’t in a fake death? Personally, I think the plan was mostly the product of Friar Lawrence’s emotions running wild and once he heard that Juliet was going to kill herself, he just panicked and told her an impulsive plan instead of really trying to help her out. His heart is in the right place but he defiantly was thinking with his heart and not his head. Juliet trusts Friar Lawrence, because he is a priest and they have a very close bond. She says she’ll carry out his plan because she too is letting her emotions control her decisions and she had very little time to think it over.

Just by listening to this plan, I knew it was going to fail and that I would never do it no matter how out of control my life was getting. It makes a very good story for Juliet to fake her own death to be with her love but, I’m the kind of person who would never do anything like that because I over analyze everything I do and after thinking about this plan in-depth, you begin to see it as unnecessary and foolish.

F.) What I’ve discovered so far about Juliet is….

Response:

What I’ve discovered so far about Juliet is that Juliet Capulet is just as emotionally unstable as the rest of us teenagers. I always pictured Juliet as an over dramatic “grown-up” and never took into account she is only thirteen years old.

When your thirteen years old you can hardly identify how you feel, and that’s when you don’t have to go though all of the drama Juliet had to. Juliet had to face many deaths in her family, like her cousin Tybalt, she had to endure her family’s feud with the Montages, which I’m sure stressed her out, and on top of all of that, she had to try to make her unconventional marriage with Romeo.

I never really cut Juliet any slack when it came to her out of control emotions. I always found my self becoming annoyed with the character for getting worked up over drama she brought upon herself. I still believe that as times but I know give a bit of a break because she’s around my age and I know hoe hard it is to deal with those emotions.
