 Τhe countries of the Mediterranean have joined forces with UNEP/MAP,the World Bank and other regional and international organizations, as wellas non governmental organizations (NGOs), operating within theframework of the Mediterranean Action Plan, to create a
StrategicPartnership for the Mediterranean Large Marine Ecosystem(”MedPartnership”).
 The MedPartnership aims to enable a coordinated and strategic approachto catalyze the policy, legal and institutional reforms, and the necessaryinvestments to reverse the degradation trends aecting this unique largemarine ecosystem, including its coastal habitats and biodiversity. The United Nations EnvironmentProgramme/ MediterraneanAction Plan (UNEP/MAP) is theregional organization thatsupports and coordinates theimplementation of the BarcelonaConvention and Protocolsadopted by all Mediterraneanriparian countries to protect themarine and coastal environment. The MedPartnership is nanciallysupported by the GlobalEnvironment Facility (GEF), the EU,the participating countries andother donors. The project is beingimplemented in close associationwith other relevant initiatives,such as Horizon 2020 for thede-pollution of the Mediterranean, the Integrated European MaritimePolicy, and the World Bank/GEF Sustainable Mediterranean Program. It alsocontributes to the sustainable development objectives of the Union for theMediterranean.

Le MedPartnership vise à favoriser une approche coordonnée etstratégique pour catalyser les réformes légales et institutionnelles et lesinvestissements nécessaires an d'inverser les tendances à la dégradationaectant ce vaste et unique écosystème marin, ainsi que ses habitatscôtiers et sa biodiversité.Le Programme des Nations Uniespour l’Environnement/ Pland’Action pour la Méditerranée(PNUE/PAM) est l’organisationrégionale qui appuie etcoordonne la mise en œuvre de laConvention de Barcelone et desProtocoles adoptés par tous lespays riverains de la méditerranéepour protéger l’environnementmarin et côtier.Le MedPartnership est nancé parle Fond pour l’EnvironnementMondial (FEM), l’UE, les paysparticipants et d’autres donateurs.Le projet est mis en œuvre enassociation avec d’autresinitiatives pertinentes telle que l’initiative Horizon 2020pour la dépollution de la Méditerrané, la Politique Maritime Intégrée poul’Europe et le Programme pour une Méditerranée Durable de la BanqueMondiale/FEM. Le projet contribue également aux objectifs dedéveloppement durable de l'Union pour la Méditerranée.
