 From 1st July, new regulations from the IMO will require new vessels of over 150 gt to carry abridge navigational watch alarm system (BWAS).The overall aim is to reduce the risks of accidentsdue to an incapacitated officer on watch (OOW).Several type approved BWAS systems areavailable, including those from Martek Marineand Uni-Safe. Their purpose is to monitor bridgeactivity and detect operator disability.
