This letter indicates my strong support for the Ridley-Thomas motion to underground the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor segment between 48" and 59" Streets along Crenshaw Boulevard, as well as a new station at the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard. As indicated in the public meetings by the residents of the View Park, Park Mesa Heights, and Leimert Park communities, the neighborhood councils and neighborhood organizations, and the locally elected officials, our region of the County of Los Angeles will benefit tremendously from these additions to the project. These changes will provide enhanced economic development opportunities and safety provisions to the line, while increasing ridership and travel times for passengers traveling to the Expo Line and LAX. The strong support of our community for Measure R indicates that the neighborhoods along the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor will not only utilize the light rail line, but deserve to benefit from the opportunities provided by addition of this line to our region, Once again, I strongly support the Ridley-Thomas motion (Item #16) on Thursday’s agenda.
