ABSTRACT Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3-D CAD/CAM Software

Pro/ENGINEER is the industry's most leading 3D mechanical

you enter the Part mode and select the options to create any
sketched feature, the system automatically takes you to the
sketcher environment.

In the sketcher environment, the sketch of the feature is

created, dimensioned, and constrained. The sketches created in
the Sketch mode are stored in the .sec format. Then you return
to the Part mode to create the required feature.

You will learn about datums and placed features in later

chapters.

In Pro/ENGINEER, a sketch can be drawn in the Sketch mode

or in the sketcher environment.

Using the Sketch Mode
PART MODELING
To create any section in the Sketch mode of Pro/ENGINEER
Wildfire 2.0, certain basic steps have to be followed. The
following steps outline the procedure to use the Sketch mode:

1. Sketch the required section geometry

The different sketcher tools available in this mode can be used
to sketch the required section geometry.
2. Add the constraints and dimensions to the sketched section
While sketching the section geometry, weak constraints and
dimensions are automatically added to the section..
3. Add relations to the sketch if needed
The geometry of the sketch can be controlled by adding
relations.
4. Regenerate the section
If the sketch is fully dimensioned and constrained, the sketch
is automatically regenerated.

Intent Manager on. Pro/ENGINEER has the capability to Fig.3 Example Of New Page Menu
analyze the section, and if the section is not complete for any .
reason, the section will not be regenerated. You will learn
about these reasons as you go through this chapter.

With this mode you will be able to:

• Use various tools to create a geometry.

• Dimension a sketch.
• Apply constraints to a sketch.
• Modify a sketch.
• Use Modify Dimensions dialog box.
• Edit geometry of a sketch by trimming.
• Mirror a sketch.
• Use drawing display options.
• Use various options to dimension a sketch.
• Create fillets.
• Place a user-defined coordinate system.
• Create, dimension, and modify splines. Fig.4 Example Of Feature used in part modeling
Specifically, this sheet metal functionality allows designers
to:

Define specific sheet metal features

Punch, notch, and form features can be created with user-
defined tooling. These features will create their own CNC
programming sequences in NC Sheetmetal

Create accurate flat patterns

Accurate flat patterns can be created using Machinery's
Handbook formulas, custom user formulas with logic
statements, bend tables, individual bend allowance
dimensions, or a combination of all four. Each bend in a part
can have a different developed length calculation.

Utilize design rules

Fig.5 Example Of Valve body
Design rules highlight geometry that does not adhere to user-
defined company standards, such as:

Create complex geometry

The core geometry modeling engine of Pro/ENGINEER-
Foundation gives sheet metal designers the ability to create
complex designs with deformable geometry and the
functionality to unbend these complex parts. A particularly
complex example is electrical connector geometry. New
unbend diagnostics give users graphical feedback to help
create flat patterns for complex parts.

Convert solid parts to sheet metal

Users can create a solid block to represent an enclosure for
assemblies, then convert the solid block to sheet metal, shell it
out, rip the seams, and automatically create the flat pattern.

Flexibly create products

Fig.6 Example Of Compressor body
Geometry can be created in a variety of ways. Users can either
build on an existing sheet metal component using familiar

Pro/ENGINEER Advanced Assembly Extension (AAX)

Fig.10 Example Of Engine Assembly

Fig.8 Example Of Concept Of Assembly

Pro/E Adv Assy Extension (AAX) is what you need for top-
down design. It provides the tools to share and manage design
data and distribute design tasks, which are necessary when an
design team is working on a complex product design. In
addition to all of the performance improvement capabilities
included in Foundation Advantage, the AAX package also
delivers capabilities for advanced top-down design. The top-
down design tools provided in AAX have been developed to
formalize the best practices for concurrent, team product
development. These tools are used for sharing and managing
design data during the development of complex assembly
products. These tools allow design teams to:

providing automatic assembly of components,

information to every member of the design team,

features. External Copy Geometry features
enable direct part-to-part references to be created
without the need for an assembly.

PRO/ENGINEER REVERSE ENGINEERING

Everything from Z to A

Sometimes starting from the end results in a much more

powerful beginning. With the Reverse Engineering software
engineers can create accurate, modifiable Pro/ENGINEER
designs from 3D scan data, quickly. The design intent gets
captured as does critical geometric data that is absolutely
needed once your design moves on to production.

It’s not like most reverse engineering you’ve heard of.

Reverse Engineering will recognize, for example, imported
surfaces that may be tangent at the adjacent boundaries where
most other reverse engineering options would lose this critical
information on import. Not only will the Reverse Engineering

when working with assemblies using AAX are as
