Seniority rights were not instituted to humble under-
classmen; neither were they devised to glorify seniors. Yet
there is some abuse in a! seniority system which is the bane
of the underclassman's existence.
The case against such a system has its-contention in the
enforcement of these rights rather than in the validity of their
existence. *
Since seniority rights favor seniors, it follows that these
seniors retain the right to enforce them and to report viola-
tions of their precepts. This is generally conceded. Not every-
one, however, is as equally willing to accept the theory that
partiality and unkindness have a place in this enforcement.
They, of course, are rightly doubtful since seniority rights are
palatable only when they are enforced objectively and without
malice or offensive superiority.
To those, then, to I whom the administration of seniority
rights will one day be entrusted, we advise the temperance of
justice with impartiality as well as with mercy. Seniority
rights, whilelnever welcomed by underclassmen, will then, at
least, not inspire rancor or resentment - and may even win
respect for the senior who is fair as well as thoughtful.

Fun Planned
"In the Good Old Summertime"
is number one on the Mercyhurst
hit parade as last minute items,
such as bathing suits and tennis
rackets, are tossed into home-
bound trunks. After a year of in-
tensive, diligent (?) study, every-
one \ would be content to bask in
the summer sun for a "long win-
ter's nap" but as our roving re-
porter roamed through the halls
