An Artistic Beginning
As A CHIld GRoWING up
in Seoul, Korea, Jenny Doh was surrounded by a amily lled with creative women who were never without their yarn and knitting needles. “My amily didn’t own a car, and all o my aunties had bags thatthey would carry onto the bus with them,” says Jenny. “Atthe top o each bag was always a ball o yarn—they wereconstantly knitting or crocheting everywhere they went, andthat’s something that really made an impression on me whenI was growing up.” Jenny’s ascination with knitting would become a sourceo comort as her amily emigrated rom Korea to the UnitedStates when she was only 7 years old. It was on the plane rideto America that she ound hersel holding on tight to her yarn and needles. “As I sat on that plane, eeling very scared,I told mysel that as long as I could knit, I would be OK,”says Jenny. Unable to speak English and unacquainted withAmerican culture, knitting provided her with much neededcomort and amiliarity during her journey.
