Yarn, rubber stamps, and theWritten Word.
These are theprimary tools that Jenny has used toclaim her voice as she seeks to leave amark in the world — a mark that shehopes will be made by harnessing theenergy of the art community for good… and one that leverages her mosttreasured value of active listening.
An Artistic Beginning
As A CHIld GRoWING up
in Seoul, Korea, Jenny Doh was surrounded by a amily lled with creative women who were never without their yarn and knitting needles. “My amily didn’t own a car, and all o my aunties had bags thatthey would carry onto the bus with them,” says Jenny. “Atthe top o each bag was always a ball o yarn—they wereconstantly knitting or crocheting everywhere they went, andthat’s something that really made an impression on me whenI was growing up.” Jenny’s ascination with knitting would become a sourceo comort as her amily emigrated rom Korea to the UnitedStates when she was only 7 years old. It was on the plane rideto America that she ound hersel holding on tight to her yarn and needles. “As I sat on that plane, eeling very scared,I told mysel that as long as I could knit, I would be OK,”says Jenny. Unable to speak English and unacquainted withAmerican culture, knitting provided her with much neededcomort and amiliarity during her journey.

KNIttING Needles IN HANd,
Jenny arrived in theUnited States and entered the school system, where sheexcelled in reading and writing. In the 7th grade, her talentscaught the eye o a teacher, who provided the recognition andencouragement that urther ueled a love or writing. “Beorehanding back our book reports, Mrs. Burrows announced thatshe was going to read one report aloud that had really touchedher,” shares Jenny. “Te moment when I realized that it wasmy report that she was reading, I elt validated as a writer.” Jenny eventually became the Editor-in-Chie o
Somer-set Studio
, where she urther witnessed the power o art asshe connected with other artists who had ound strength increativity. When she let the magazine industry in 2009 tostart her own business, she brought with her the desire todevelop a venue where artists could come to share their taleso triumph through the arts.
