Taking Your Soul to Work

Overcoming the Nine Deadly Sins of the Workplace

R. Paul Stevens & Alvin Ung
Instead of regarding work as an intrusion upon the spiritual life, R.
Paul Stevens and Alvin Ung view the workplace as a positive arena
for personal spiritual growth — and here they show how that can be
so in very practical ways.

Taking Your Soul to Work examines the nine deadly sins of the work-
place (“soul-sapping struggles at work”), the ninefold fruit of the
Spirit that can meet our workplace needs, and the nine positive out-
comes of integrating spirituality and work. Tapping into the wisdom
of great spiritual writers over the past two millennia and drawing on
their own experiences, Stevens and Ung discuss real-life dilemmas
and offer practical guidance for growing spiritually at work in the
twenty-first century.

Brief, engaging chapters — each rounded out with an action plan

or a case study plus suggested exercises — make this book very well
suited to small-group study.

“The authors are to be commended for producing a unique book on the

spirituality of work. It is full of deep theological insights and draws on
the time-tested resources found in the Christian spiritual tradition. At
the same time it is a practical workbook offering sensible answers to the
common pitfalls in the modern workplace.” — Simon Chan
