Asinglechannelhigh-fidelityaudioamplifiercanbeconsidereda"Mon-aural"soundsystem.Bythis,wemeanthattherecordingsaremadebyusingonemicrophoneorgroupofmicrophonesandthentheinformationobtainedfromtheorchestraorvocalistischanneledintoonlyonerecord-ing.Thissinglechannelrecordingisthenfedtoasinglechannelamplifierandtoasinglespeakersystem.Sincemanbasicallyhearsandinterpretswithwhatcanbeconsidereda"Binaural"mechanism,Zenith'sengineeringlaboratorieshavedevelopednew"Stereophonic"soundreproductionequipmentwhichismostcompat-iblewiththehearingmechanismofman"Ina"Stereophonic"soundsystem,twomicrophonesorgroupsofmicro-phonesareusedandtheinformationfromeachmicrophoneorgroupisrecordedseparately:thisisdonewitheitheratwochanneltaperecorder"orwithadualchannelstereophonicrecord.Theinformationfromeachrecordedchannelisfedtoaseparateaudioamplifierandthentheoutputoftheseseparateaudioamplifiersisfedtoseparatespeakersystems.Inthismanner,soundcanberecordedandreproducedstereophonicallyandmanwillhearasheisnormallyaccustomed.Radiobroadcasttransmissionsareoftwotypes.AmplitudeModulation{Standard-Broadcast)andFrequencyModulation{FM).FrequencyModulationprovidesatremendousimprovementinthereduc-tionofinterferenceofstatic.Inmostinstallations,particularlythosenottoodistantfromthe.transmittingstation,staticofalltypesisentirelyabsent,FrequencyModulationallowsthetransmissionofnotonlyagreatlyin-creasedtonalrange,resultinginhearingmusicalinstrumentsandsoundswhichpreviouslyhavebeenunheard,butalsoofagreatlyincreaseddy-namicrange,allowingtheloudestandsoftestpassagestobeheardintheirtrueproportions.NewstandardsforstereophonicFMbroadcastinghavebeenapprovedbytheFederalCommunicationsCommissionwhichaddanexcitingnewdi-mensiontoFMRadiolistening.ZenithpioneeredanddevelopedtheStereo-phonicFMsystemonwhichtheFederalCommunicationsCommissionbasedthebroadcastingstandards"TheZenithengineerswhocreatedthisbasicStereophonicFMsystemhavealsocreatedforZenithowners.newAM/FMtunerswhichwillenableyoutoreceivethesenewStereophonicFMbroadcasts(sometimesreferredtoasMultiplexing).
