SR-1 residentShirley Weinholdwas killed April28, 2011 in a autoaccident whichleft the driver June Robinsonand her sister,Carol Perez, alsoSR-1 residents, injured.
(newsclip below)
Shirley was born in New York but had spent much of her recent life in California, whereshe worked for many years asa home health care worker. She moved to Spanish Ranch Ifrom San Leandro in 1998 withher husband Lloyd, who diedin 2003.Back surgery had left Shirleycoping with a lot of pain butshe had medical orders to getout and walk twice a day. Shebecame a familiar sight in thepark as she walked her twosmall dogs, frequently accom-panied by an old yellow catshe’d befriended. She’d callout a cheery hello to everyoneshe met. We’ll miss that.People speaking at her memorial service, held May 13at the LDS church on Gading, mentioned over and over her caring nature and contagious joy in the things she loved.Among the mourners wereLloyd’s niece Vicki and her husband Barry, and nephewTerry and his wife, also namedVicki. They mentioned Shirley’sdelight in the life she sharedwith Lloyd, a love of garden-ing, and her pets, which hadincluded parrots and dogs.No relatives were locat-ed but Shirley had adoptedBrenda as her “mom” and hadcountless close “sisters” and“brothers.” One noted that sheknew everyone in the park, especially those with dogs.Another mentioned her love ofanimals and children.Prayers and eulogy wereoffered by members of her SR-1 family, Monty and YolandaLindsey, Donna Nunes, andAlicia Gevarter.Shirley was predeceased byher parents, a daughter andher husband, and was interredat Lone Tree Cemetery.
