Trainee’s comment
I feel some of the comments and observations made in this assessment are somewhat
harsh. The mention of AFL as an area for development is, I feel, somewhat of a kop out.
There have been several examples where I have been observed by college and received
positive feedback in the area of AFL. Furthermore, to fully and effectively implement AFL
into classroom practice, it would be logical to keep me with the same group of children in
KS1 who I’ve worked well with this term, despite receiving little support, and give me a
consistent timetable into term 5. Instead, I will be placed into Foundation again next term
where the children are not yet using LI’s and Steps, therefore it’s difficult to implement AFL
in an explicit manor. AFL can be used throughout the day/lesson, and I do this, so I fail to
understand why it is constantly mentioned as an area for development. I’m told the school
is doing there best to look after my interests and progression, but my listening to my
emerging needs and doing the opposite, I can’t help but feel somewhat un-supported.

ITT Co-ordinator’s comments

It is absolutely imperative that Glenn uses Afl as an integral part of his day to day teaching.
This is a recurring development feature of the above assessment. Glenn is receiving
focussed support from his mentor, however he still needs to consistently demonstrate a
commitment to the teaching, planning and organisation of his lessons and sessions if he is
to be able to take full responsibility for a whole class for longer periods in the future.
