GENERAL SAFETY RULES
questions 1-10
Report all injuries, even though slight, to your instructor.Caution any student you see not following the safety rules.Wear suitable eye protection when engaged in any activity where eye hazards mayexist.Keep tools from hanging off the edge of the benches.Fasten or remove loose clothing and roll sleeves above your elbows before operatingany machine.Keep floor clear of scraps and litter.The designated area of operators safety zone around a machine is to protect all thestudents and the instructorKeep bench, cabinet, and lockers doors closed.Any liquid spilled on the floor should be wiped up immediately because it may causesomeone to slip.Exercise care in handling large, heavy, and long pieces of material.Rags containing oil, gasoline, alcohol, shellac, paint, vanish, or lacquer must be kept ina covered container.Before using any power equipment you should obtain permission from your instructor.Any breakage or damage to a tool, instrument, or machine you should notify theinstructor immediately.When using a knife or any other sharp object cut away from your body.Only use a brush to clean off the benches.
 
DRILL PRESS
questions 11-16
Obtain permission from your instructor before using the drill press.When drilling a large hole the drill press work should be held in a vise and clamped tothe table.Make all adjustments to the drill press when the machine has stopped moving.Make sure no one but you is inside the operator's zone.Never leave the drill press until the drill has stopped moving.You use a low speed when drilling large holes and when you’re using hard woodWear safety glasses when operating the machine.Back drill out as soon as hole is drilled.Why do you need to remove the chuck key the chuck key will be thrown out of themachine at a great force.Use a brush not your hands to remove shavings from the drill press.Never leave the machine while the drill is still moving.When the drill bit catches in the wood you should decrease pressure feed.
JIG SAW
questions 16-20
Obtain permission from instructor before using the Jig Saw.Install the jig saw blade to cut on the down stroke of the sawOnly cut stock that has a flat bottom.Before you start the jig saw you should check the hold down adjustment to make surethere is slight pressure against the stock.Make sure that you are the only one in the operator zone when you start the machine.Wear safety glasses when operating the Jig Saw.
 
JIG SAW
(continued)Hold on to the stock firmly with both hands when cutting.Prior to starting the jig saw you should turn the machine by hand to be sure all theadjustments and moving parts are working properly.Feed the material into the machine at a moderate rate of speed.Keep your fingers and hands away from the blade on the jig saw.Do not force the stock into the jig saw because the blade could break.Never leave the machine until it has come to a complete stop.
BAND SAW
questions 21-25
Obtain permission from your instructor before using the band saw.Only cut stock that has a flat surface.All adjustments on the band saw only when the machine is at a dead stop.Make sure you are the only one inside the operator zone when starting the machine.Wear safety glasses.Keep fingers a safe distance away from the blade.Set the upper saw guide of the band saw one forth inch or less above the stock.Keep saw blade from twisting while cutting curved pieces.You never stand on the right of the machine if the blade breaks because that is adangerous place to be.When is comes necessary to back out stock from a long cut on the band saw youshould stop the machine then back out the stock.If the saw blade breaks or comes off you should step away, shut off the power, and thennotify the instructor.Never leave the machine until it has come to a complete stop.
