2011 Brandywine Farm ES Gathering Schedule and Rules
The Gathering will be held at both the Lancaster Township Community Center/BauderPark and Brandywine Farm. The east edge of Bauder Park adjoins Brandywine Farm. Please park at the Community Center unless directed otherwise. Parking is limited atthe farm. If we fill the parking lot, you can park on the park lawn on the lane leading tothe farm, facing in towards the ballfield. Stay close to the lane. Please use the bathroom facilities at the Community Center whenever possible. Ourseptic isn
ʼ
t designed for big crowds. Of course, if it
ʼ
s an emergency, go ahead and usethe house bathroom. (First floor, back hallway, hard to miss, it
ʼ
s a small house.) Thereis only one. Gentlemen are encouraged to patronize a convenient bush that is at adiscrete remove from dwellings and electric fences. No alcohol is permitted in the park. You may enjoy an adult beverage at the farm.BYOB. You can put beverages to share in the fridge in the pole barn (white buildingwith green roof) or leave your own cooler in the barn if you don
ʼ
t want to share. There is no smoking inside in the Community Center or the pavilion or playground. Nosmoking
anywhere
, indoors or out, at Brandywine Farm.
Do not provoke the paranoid firefighter and nobody gets hurt.
We will have recycling bins for metal/plastics, paper, and cardboard, and a chickenfood/compost bucket for ALL food scraps. Please use the appropriate receptacles. There is a leash rule for the park. If dogs from the Gathering end up in neighbors
ʼ
yards, we will not be permitted to rent the park in the future. Don
ʼ
t screw it up. Thedenizen of the small house directly across Moore Alley from the Community Centerparking lot hates everyone and everything.
Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball
.No flexi-leads, please. We will enforce that safety rule.We have rented the park, but please give any local children precedence over dogs onthe small playground. The dogs can play there when there are no kids. Please do not play fetch or other exciting games, or brandish toys, in or near groups ofdogs you do not know. There is plenty of fetch space away from the center of activity. Ifthere is a dog fight, the guy throwing the ball is
automatically
at fault.Your trained dog can enjoy off-leash time at Brandywine Farm whenever you wish. Youare responsible for the cost of any poultry your dog injures or kills. If your dog is notabsolutely poultry-compliant, do not allow him off-leash near the barns and house, andkeep a sharp eye out for guinea fowl in the outer fields. If your dog is not trained, don
ʼ
tlet him off-leash. We cannot stop what we are doing to help you chase your untrained

dog. The hayfield (near the park) and the east end of the south pasture and theadjoining woods are generally poultry-free. I
ʼ
ll have paths cut through the tall stuff foryour walking pleasure. The creek below the house is spring-fed and pure, but we arenot responsible for canine mud monsters. The goat pasture fence is electrified and pretty darn hot. If you wish to meet the goats, the cattle panel section adjoining their shed is not electrified. They are not likely tocome say hi if you have a dog they don
ʼ
t know with you. Keep a close eye on small kidsnear the goat fence. Do not open the gate. Goats love banana peels. If you need internet access, you can get our wifi in or near the house. It will beunsecured for the Gathering. Reception is fine on the porch, back deck and arbor.Scoop or bag poop in the park
without fail
. We
ʼ
ll have scoops and receptaclesavailable. Scoop or bag in the mowed area (let
ʼ
s, for the sake of argument, call it a“lawn” if you can stop laughing for a moment) around the house. Don
ʼ
t scoop in thepastures or woods, though if the deposit is in the center of a walking path it is a nicegesture to get a stick and flick it into the shrubberies. If your dog needs some down time or you need some no-dog time for whatever reason, you may crate him in the barn. Be sure to respect the space of any other dogs who arechillin
ʼ
in the barn at that time, and close the door to keep the chickens out. We havesome kennel space in the pole building; ask Ken or Heather if you would like to use it.If you need to use our garden hose (perhaps because turkey guano is such a lovelycologne), the hose bib is under the deck.
Turn it off when you are done.
This is veryimportant, as the bib leaks and can actually drain the well tank.Prior to 10 am on Saturday and Sunday all of our dogs will be free-ranging. Pleasedon
ʼ
t bring your dog onto Brandywine Farm property (except in your vehicle if we
ʼ
veinvited you or you need us for something) before 10, as some of our dogs are territorial, and we will be busy with chores. Speed limit is 5 miles per hour, and we
mean it.
