Dear Diversity Summit Attendees:
‘While its hard for many of us to beliove, it has
been a year since the Urban League's Diversity
Advisory Council launched its first Diversity
‘Summit. We are very pleased to be back here at
‘the former Naval Training Center and to see so
many familiar faces and new ones as well;
welcome!
‘This year’s Diversity Summit promises to be even
bigger and better than last year with more keynote
speakers, more workshops, and more time to
connect with each other in formal and informal
networking events. Our theme, Moving Beyond
Talk to Action: Building a Diverse 21st Century
Organization, was deliberately chosen as a call to
action to all diversity practitioners and
organizational leaders. Frankly speaking, we
believe itis time for all of us to grab the wheel and
ush it forward. It's no longer enough for us to just
talk-the-talk on diversity - we need to get our
walking shoes on! To speed our effort, each and

every one of our keynoters, workshop presenters
and exhibitors has been given marching orders to
provide our conference attendees with realistic,
achievable processes, goals and techniques for
moving beyond talk and into action.
But, as the old saying goes, we can't do this alone
= we need to work together, to support one
another, and hold each other up when times get
tough. And if ever there was a reason to hold this,
Diversity Summmit it would be to acknowledge and
build upon our mutual dependency. Because
building a diverse 21st century organization can't
be accomplished in a vacuum. This colossal effort
needs leadership from our conference presenters,
speakers, staff, supporters, volunteers, parti
and of course our sponsors. So thank you in
advance for attending this year's Summit; thank
you for supporting this unique event; enjoy it, learn
from it and perhaps most importantly...take it all
home and get to work!
