Thanks for buying this book. By doing so, you have supported two worthy organizations: 826 Valencia and Opium for the Arts. One hundred percent of all profits received by the author will be divided evenly between them.

Why 826 Valencia? Why Opium for the Arts?

826 Valencia is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Their services are structured around the belief that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.

Opium for the Arts is dedicated to evolving the written word both on the page and beyond it by publishing heartbreaking and hilarious writing and artwork; producing energetic literary events riddled with surprises; and promoting literature in new and innovative ways that cultivate an intimate relationship between the artist and the audience.

In other words, I chose them because they are throwing coal on the love-of-reading f ire. In that sense, my choices are totally self-serving, because I’m a writer and writers need readers.
