Definition of Sets as per Modern Mathematics


Set is a collection of well defined object.
Example: Set of Numbers = { 1,2,3,4---- }
Universal Set

(i) Its the set which contains every possible nos as prime,
even, odd etc.
(ii) A set of which all other sets under discussion are
subsets is called universal set.
Example: Let the set of odd no. be N
N = { 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. }

Sub-set -> Its a set of all the elements are contained in other set.
Let N be the Universal set which contains common nos N= { 1,
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 } and let A be the f another set which contains some
nos universal set N.
A= {3, 4, 5, 6, 7}
This shows that A is subset of the Universal set N.
