(Phoenix, AZ) Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his deputies areconducting the 47
employer sanction/illegal immigration operation this morningas they execute a search warrant on a well known, historic restaurant in thedowntown area. The Old Spaghetti Factory, a landmark restaurant just north of downtown, aresuspected of currently employing illegal aliens, all using false identifications, aclass four felony.Information about the restaurant’s potential hiring of illegals came to theSheriff’s Office from a source who was once employed at the eatery.Deputies then ran a document search on a number of restaurant employeesthrough Department of Security Records and found several discrepancies whichled to today’s search warrant.Today’s search warrant marks the first employers sanctions case by theMaricopa County Sheriff since the Supreme Court ruling on May 26, 2011upholding the right by local law enforcement agencies to enforce state lawsagainst employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is believed to be the only law enforcementagency in the state that is currently enforcing the employer sanctions laws.
