History Wind Power

Windmills were used in Persia (present-day Iran) as early as 200 B.C.The first use of a large windmill to generate electricity was a system built in. Cleveland, Ohio, in 1888 by Charles F. Brush. The Brush machine was a postmill with a multiple-bladed.

Type of Wind Turbine

Picture of Wind Turbine

Modern Wind Turbine

Condition the wind turbine in modern age: 1. One of the most economical sources of new electricity available today 2. One of the many power electricity is the clean environment 3. Wind energy is recognized as the worlds fastest-growing new energy source

Wind Power
Advantage:
clean energy low cost Wind turbine can be set up quickly and cheaply can apllication onshore or offshore

Disvantage
Wind turbine produce the noice voice Wind turbine can influence radio or Television signal in the around area Wind turbine can block the way of bird to migration Need large area

How does a Wind Turbine Work?

Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

HWAT (3 blades) vs VAWT

+High efficiency than are Vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) +More aesthetic, less noise, fewer bird strikes Than are VAWT +The wind turbin easy to be controlled

+VAWT can right the wind speed from any wind direction + VAWT is rich rather than wind turbine 3 blades + need some electric to start

How much Power does a Wind Turbine Generate?

Kinetic Energy = Work = mV2 Where: M= mass of moving object V = velocity of moving object What is the mass of moving air? = density ( ) x volume (Area x distance) = xAx d = (kg/m3) (m2) (m) = kg V

How much Power does a Wind Turbine Generate?

Power = Work / t = Kinetic Energy / t
= mV2 / t

= ( Ad)V2/t = AV2(d/t) = AV3

d/t = V

Power in the Wind = AV3

Example Calculating Power in the Wind Power in the Wind = AV3

V = 5 meters (m) per second (s) m/s = 1.0 kg/m3 R = 2 m >>>> A (swept area) = 12.5 m2 Power in the Wind = AV3 = (0.5)(1.0)(12.5)(5)3 Units = 31.25 Watts = (kg/m3)x (m2)x (m3/s3) = (kg-m)/s2 x m/s = N-m/s = Watt
