The confederation of US was established in order to deal with vital issues like defense, foreign affairs. It was also meant to deal with currency circulation. It strengthened the relationship between the members of state and the central government. It promoted the concept of congress. All states were answerable to assembled congress in order to enter into any treaties, trade agreements. The congress ensured that no state invaded the other while benefitting from protection extended by US government. It also issued a guideline on how to share power between the state and the central government. It also came up with a way to make each state independent in its own way yet still be connected as a whole. The way to pay for the colonies defenses would come from a singular treasury. Most of these decrees & conventions were adapted in the current constitution, while making some significant improvements. Most essentially, it served to be a broader framework within which today's constitution was drafted.
