European M.Sc. Degree in Food Science, Technology and Nutrition

This European M.Sc. Degree programme has been selected under the Erasmus Mundus II framework for the period 2010-2014. (agreement no. 2010-0115)

Aim of the programme


The aim of the European M.Sc. Degree programme is to foster and develop knowledge and awareness of scientific trends and health issues in food science, technology and nutrition in a global context.

The compulsory core modules are:

Entry requirements:
Candidates applying for admission have to comply with the following entry requirements: (1) A Bachelor of Science Degree, or equivalent study, from a recognized academic institute with excellent grades in relevant subjects such as Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Nutrition or Engineering or cognate subject area. Non-standard applicants will be considered on an individual basis. The working language of the M.Sc. Degree programme is English and therefore proficiency in English is essential

Programme description
The partner institutions have developed a European M.Sc. Degree in Food Science, Technology and Nutrition. The degree will be offered in each of the partner countries. Additionally the Consortium consists of five nonEuropean associated members: Tufts University, the USA; National Institute of Public Health of Mexico; Michurinsk State Agrarian University, Russia; National Dairy Research Institute in Karnal, India; Northwest A&F University, China The Programme will be organized in a modular format. Candidates will be required to undertake six compulsory core modules offered by two partner institutions and to select four modules from the optional modules listing offered by the institutes with the most expertise in the particular field. The optional modules commencement is subject to sufficient demand. The ten modules will be followed by a semester of a Professional Competence module and a semester of a scientific project organized by partner institution(s) or the associated member in cooperation with companies and/ or research laboratories. The scientific project will require submission of a Master thesis. The course is designed in a way that allows students to carry out a period of study in at least two of the European partner institutes represented in the consortium and optionally in a non-European associated member institute. The award of the European M.Sc. Degree will be based on the successful completion of the ten modules (60 ECTS credits), the professional competence module (30 ECTS credits), and the project (30 ECTS credits).

Funding
ERASMUS MUNDUS scholarships of 46.000 are available to selected non-EU students and up to 22.000 for EU students for the full length of the course of 4 semesters.

Target audience
The degree course is planned for graduates intending to follow or develop their careers in food science, technology, nutrition as related to food production, health and allied areas. Certain modules will also be available to suitably qualified persons and to persons undertaking Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the workplace, who wish to gain new insights and knowledge. On successful completion of each module selected ECTS credits will be awarded.

Enrolment fee
The annual enrolment fee for 2010 is set at 8.000 for non-EU students and at 4.000 for EU-students and it is subject to annual revision. For most updated information please refer to the website: http://www.sefotechnut.org.
