This is a new translation of the lifetime work of Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) , often considered to be the first modern poet and the foremost French one. Appropriately named Les fleurs du mal (Flowers of Evil), many poems in the collection speak with unflinching clarity and truthfulness upon both the light and the dark in the poet's soul, the conflicting currents of love and hatred, anxiety and peace, and many others. The translation stays close to the French text and includes, in rhyme and meter, all 160 poems, as re-published in 1948 by the Club Français du livre.
