nearestpossiblerenderingoftheactualvocalrecitation.Aword

Nabiyyan,
forinstance,when
it

Nabiyya,
sothisishowithasbeentransliterated.ArabicdiffersfromotherlanguagesinitsbeingthelanguageoftheQuran,thelanguagethatGodchosetomakeworthy
of
conveyingHisrevelation.Revelationiseternalknowledgeofrealityexpressed
in-
humanlanguage.Itsvehiclerequiresexceptionalprecision,depth,subtlety,andmalleabilityrorenderitadequateforthepurpose..Furthermore,themannerinwhichGQdand,toalesserextent,HisMessenger

itsletters.Knowingthis,MuslimsallovertheworldhavealwaysrecitedboththeQueanandthePropheticinvocationsintheiroriginalArabic,evenwhenunabletounderstandthelanguage,inordertomakesurethattheylosenoneofthesecretsand
baraka,
muchofwhicharelostintranslation.
 
However,prayerisnotlimitedtospecifictimesoroccasions;itisaconstantcommunionwithGod.Wheneverweleaveourhouseorcrossthestreet,we'askGodforprotection.WhenhungryweaskHimtofeedusandwhenworriedtoreassureus.Thiskindofspontaneousprayershouldnotbesubjecttoconstraintsoflanguageorevenstyle.TheCompanionsoftheProphet~feltentirelyfreetoaddresstheirpetitionstoGodintheirownwords,orinthecaseofabedouin,inhislocaldialect,despitehavingmemorizedtheProphet'swordsandmakingfrequentuse'ofthem.AswithalllitaniesofImamal-Haddad,
