Understanding the Power and the Historyof Amulets
&
Talismans
This book gives a fascinating history of amulets and talismans. It shows you how to construct these charms to fulfill your needs anddesires. From the historical background provided, you can see thatusing amulets is no idle, superstitious whim, but rather a naturalfollowing of a traditional faith in the power of protective signs andsymbols.Reading this book will give a complete understanding of themeaning of amulets and talismans and of their place in today'smodern society. Do amulets and talismans work? Are they really ef-fective? Do they possess magical powers in themselves or do theydraw such power out of the maker? The answers are all here, wait-ing for you.Today's modern society, with its continual need to progress, itshigh pressures, stress, and constant competition, is one in which theamulet and the talisman can find a natural niche. We have come fullcircle from Paleolithic times when the world seemed overly .com-plex. At that time, primitive people incorporated symbols repre-senting the powers of Nature into talismans that they could use toprotect themselves and'give them the confidence to carry on. Todaythere is that same need in many people. Using modern talismans,we can bolster our courage and reinforce our confidence to fight thecompetition and run the "rat-race" of super-civilization.Through its complete and detailed examination of the subject, the book puts religious and magical faith into true perspective, un-derscoring the utilitarian nature of charms in everyday life. They arenot the exclusive preserve of ritual magicians, cabbalists, mystics, and priests, but the common tools of all of us; the birthright of thosewho would compete in a world growing ever more complex.-Raymond BucklandAuthor of Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft
