1.0 INTRODUCTION
This plan presents the d e s c r i p t i o n of and requirements f o r the first full -s cale instrumented t e s t vehicle deployment flight test. The major t e s t emphasis will be the evaluation of t h e Paraglider deployment s equence.
W h e n all subsysterns have been installed, the following special t e s t s w i l l be conducted on the f u l l - s c a l e t e s t vehicle (FSTV):
Live Squib T e s t .
T h i s test w i l l be conducted a t Edwards Air F o r c e Base. It w i l l consist of a s i m u l a t e d flight on battery power, during w h i c h a l l pyrotechnic devices except the M D F r i n g arid aft r e s t r a i n t cutters w i l l b e f i r e d . Monitoring for e l e c t r i c a l noise i n t e r f e r e n c e w i l l b e accomplished.
Extraction T e s t .
This t e s t w i l l be conducted at t h e Downey, California, plant. It w i l l consist of the extraction of the Paraglider from the R&R cani'stes, the inflation of the Paraglider, and b o o m and keel trailing edge release
{no apex r e l e a s e ) .
The f l i g h t will c o n s i s t of launch from the USAF C -130 carrier aircraft, separation of t e s t vehicle f r o m the launch sled, timer initiation of Paraglider deployment, transition t o initial glide, Paraglider jettison, and initiation of recovery parachute deployment.
Systems operation w i l l b e telemetered to ground stations for recording. Photographic coverage of the t e s t will b e provided by bn-board cameras, by the photo-chase aircraft, and by mobile tracking station cameras on the lakebed. Space position and velocity information w i l l be provided by groundbased range instrumentation.

Mobile tracking camera coverage at 48 f p s , f r o m 10 seconds prior to launch through main r e c o v e r y parachute deployment and from 2000 feetabove the terrain to landing, is required. The primary target is the test vehicle. Slated scene d e s c r i p t i o n i s required on the beginning of the film.
Air -to-Air (Launch Aircraft)
Extraction and drogue parachute release will be photographed from the launch aircraft. The p r i m a r y target is the t e s t vehicle. A f r a m e rate of 64 fps will be used. Slated s c e n e description is r e q u i r e d on the beginning of
the film.
Two a i r c r a f t will b e u s e d t o provide air -to -air photographic coverage. A f r a m e rate of 2 0 0 fps w i l l be used f o r release throughout wing deployment. F i g u r e s 3 and 4 show photo- chase .aircraft position. Slated scene d e s c r i p t i o n is required on t h e beginning o the film. The primary target is the t e s t f vehicle.
Still P h o t o ~anhv r
Engineering s t i l l photography w i l l be as requested b y the NAA t e s t conductor and w i l l b e coordinated with NASA/ FRC. Film and Copies Requirements
Table 2 lists S&ID film and copies requirements f o r the evaluation sf this t e s t . Also specified is the maximum allowable elapsed t i m e between exposure and r e c e i p t of film and copies. Film and copies w i l l be accepted by NAA range l i a i s o n personnel on or before the required date.
