These are the notes I made in Bible College when we listened to a sermon by JohnBevere called:HOW TO HANDLE UNFAIR TREATMENT.It is a very relevant and good sermon. I hope that my notes will be a blessing toyou.HOW TO HANDLE UNFAIR TREATMENT by John BevereRom. 12:17-21 (AMP)“Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is honest and proper andnoble [aiming to be above reproach] in the sight of everyone.If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for [God’s] wrath; for itis written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay (requite), says the Lord.But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by sodoing you will heap burning coals upon his head.Do not let yourself be overcome by evil, but overcome (master) evil with good.”It is hard to get a bitter heart when you are blessing your enemy.Lev. 19:18 (KJV)“Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people,but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.”It is not a suggestion it is a command.Rom. 13:1-2 (AMP)“Let every person be loyally subject to the governing (civil) authorities. Forthere is no authority except from God [by His permission, His sanction], and thosethat exist do so by God’s appointment.Therefore he who resists and sets himself up against what God has appointed andarranged [in divine order]. And those who resist will bring down judgment uponthemselves [receiving the penalty due them].”The only way you can know God is if you understand authority… You must be able tosubmit to authority. A true Christian understands authority.1 Pet. 2:13-23 (KJV)“Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be tothe king, as supreme;Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment ofevildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence theignorance of foolish men:As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as theservants of God.Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good andgentle, but also to the froward.For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief,suffering wrongfully.For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take itpatiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, thisis acceptable with God.For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving usan example, that ye should follow his steps:Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not;
but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:”Greek word:SKOLIOS-> crooked, wicked, perverse, and unfair.-> tyrannical or unjust leaders.When you pray in tongues you will get wisdom that is above the natural on how tohandle these situations.There are two kinds of persecution:1.For doing wrong2.For doing rightWe have been called to handle unfair treatment correctly.Life is not FAIR but it is JUST.Mark 15:3-5 (KJV)“And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many thingsthey witness against thee.But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.”Why did Pilate marvel? And why didn’t Jesus answer him?Pilate marveled because everyone always tries to defend themselves (even when theyare guilty) and Jesus (who is innocent) didn’t say a word.Jesus kept quiet because he left His life God’s hands.********THREE things happen when we stop defending ourselves:1.It makes room for God’s righteous judgment, in fact, it speeds it up!2 Pet. 3:11-12 (KJV)“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of personsought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,Looking for and hasting* unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavensbeing on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?”*speudo spyoo'-do: to speed up or to await earnestly.Heb.11:7 (KJV) “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet,moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which hecondemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”Noah speeded up God’s judgment.Your obedience will speed up the coming of God. Refuse to justify yourself whenpeople talk about you.Matt. 18:21-22 (KJV)“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me,and I forgive him? till seven times?Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventytimes seven.”1 Pet. 3:8-9, 13 (KJV)“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love asbrethren, be pitiful, be courteous:Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing;knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.”
“And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?”When you defend yourself you are forfeiting your spiritual protection. Wheneveryou endure unfair treatment God is setting you up for blessing!Rather give it up than allowing satan to steal from you. When he steals you canonly claim back seven fold, but if you GIVE it up, you shall receive even ahundred times more back.Luke 18:1-7 (KJV)And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, andnot to faint;Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me ofmine adversary.And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fearnot God, nor regard man;Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continualcoming she weary me.And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, thoughhe bear long with them?”********THREE things happen when we stop defending ourselves:2.It develops the character of Christ in your life.1 Pet. 4:1-2 (KJV)“Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselveslikewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceasedfrom sin;That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts ofmen, but to the will of God.”“…ceased from sin;” means spiritual adulthood.Ps. 66:12 (KJV)“Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and throughwater: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place .”Ps. 103:6 (KJV)“The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.”You have to ARM yourself for unfair treatment in order to ACT instead of REACT.Spiritual growth is not a function of time or of knowledge (knowing scriptureetc.) but it is a function of suffering (or unfair treatment). Spiritual growthhappens when we endure resistance, terror or suffering.How people handle suffering and unfair treatment indicates where they arespiritually.Don’t defend yourself when preaching; don’t preach out of your wounds!********THREE things happen when we stop defending ourselves:3.It glorifies God.1 Pet. 2:12 (KJV)“Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speakagainst you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold,
