Perhaps the most mportant or at least the most amous church councl o the MddleAges – the Councl o Konstanz – ganed ts name rom the prevously quet and lttle-
known, although relatvely mportant and rch cathedral cty on the shore o Lake Kon-stanz n Germany. The councl brought the cty permanent ame. from 1414 to 1418,Konstanz lterally became the centre o Europe. On the ntatve o the kng and later Emperor Sgsmund o Luembourg, the poltcal and relgous elte o Europe gatheredhere to solve the Papal schsm, whch had contnued snce 1378.
