All those people living out their lives, seen from afar. Despite all the wars, the suffering, greed, hate,and injustice - from a distance, collectively society shows its beauty and brings hope that we can cometogether despite our differences. It's funny how one can feel so alone lost in a city, and yet feel soconnected 230 miles from Earth. Funny how sometimes we can only see our true beauty andconnectedness from afar. Funny how 3.8 billion years ago singled celled organisms appeared andevolved in such a way to construct the pinnacle of evolution – love. Without rhyme or reason out of a primordial soup percolated an amorous affinity of accordance – evolution. This is a brief introductionto the beauty of a statistical process.“If you like to imagine you came from monkeys, that's fine with me,” snickered the fundamentalistsitting across the table, then continued “Personally, I like to believe in the truth – which is as plain asday – we came from perfection, we came from divinity, we are creation at its finest.”Putting egotistic arguments aside, what is most troubling about the above statement and philosophy isits radically repressive recitation. It implies that instead of humanity in general heading towards agreater good, we are diverging – quite literally becoming stupider and stupider until finally we're sostupid a God has no choice but to carry out Armageddon. This is a philosophy that is not onlydegrading, but also disheartens and debases what it means to be human – trivializing 3.8 billion yearsof evolution.Let me repeat that, 3.8 billion years of evolution. At best we live but a tiny, infinitesimal fraction of
