2010 Recovery Month Quilt 8th RI Rally for Recovery September 11, 2010
Each year on September 1st, Rhode Island has their Kick-off for National Recovery Month, where that years recovery quilt is displayed for the first time. Each vibrant square tells a different story: A sister tragically lost to her addiction. A father back with his family after a long struggle. A teen in recovery and thankful for life and loved ones. Over 100 of these 11" x 8" felt squares are created each year at Rhode Island's Rally for Recovery by individuals in recovery, family members and friends. After the event, they are gathered up and many are sewn together by a sponsoring agency and its clients to create a beautiful quilt that tells a new story. It boldly says, 'You are not alone and we are all in this together'. The new quilt, along with its predecessors, is then displayed at the following year's event. Vantage Point proudly sponsored the 2010 Recovery Month Quilt. Past quilt sponsors are Phoenix House, The Kent Center and The Providence Center. Be sure to look for the Recovery Quilt Project table at this year's event to create your own square for next year's quilt. Let's keep it going and soon we will have dozens of quilts and hundreds of stories to share at the RI Rally for Recovery!
