PREFACIO
 Durante más de medio siglo, a través de sucesivas ediciones, he ampliado y renovadoconstantemente este libro. Su edición actual, comparada con la primera, es sin duda obra nueva.Multitud de páginas han sido agregadas, otras reemplazadas y no pocas modificadas, atendiendo en cadacaso a la entidad y naturaleza de las periódicas innovaciones doctrinarias, legislativas, jurisprudencialesy hasta terminológicas. Sólo algunas explicaciones, por haber conservado su lozanía, han permanecidoinalterables. Corresponden a ciertas lecciones de los sabios e inolvidables maestros Arturo AlessandriRodríguez y Manuel Somarriva Undurraga. Y aunque no son muchas, bastan, a mi juicio, para mantener  preeminentemente los nombres de esos ilustres civilistas en el frontis de esta singular construcción deideas, juicios y palabras. A. V. H.
