Deadline for Retroactive StopLoss Special Pay Extended
 From: U.S. Department of Defense
-
Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs)

The deadline for eligibleservice members, veterans and their  beneficiaries to apply for Retroac-tive Stop Loss Special Pay (RSLSP)has been extended to Oct. 21, 2011,allowing those eligible more time toapply for the benefits they’ve earnedunder the program guidelines. The deadline extension is included in ContinuingResolution H.R. 1473, signed by President Obama April15, 2011, providing funding for federal government oper-ations through Oct. 21, 2011.The RSLSP was established to compensate for the hardships military members encountered when their service was involuntarily extended under Stop Loss Au-thority between Sept. 11, 2001, and Sept. 30, 2009. Eligi- ble members or their beneficiaries may submit a claim totheir respective military service in order to receive the benefit of $500 for each full or partial month served in aStop Loss status. When RSLSP began on Oct. 21, 2009, the ser-vices estimated 145,000 service members, veterans and beneficiaries were eligible for this benefit. Because themajority of those eligible had separated from the military, the services have engaged in extensive and persistent out-reach efforts over the past 18 months. Outreach effortsincluding direct mail and engaging military and veteranservice organizations, social networks and media outlets, will continue through Oct. 21, 2011.To apply, or for more information on RSLSP, includingsubmission requirements and service

Need a Ride
Because so many sick and disabled veterans lack transportation to and from VA medical facilities for needed treatment, the DAV operates a nationwide Trans- portation Network to meet this need.

Through the Transportation Network, DAVvolunteers drive sick and disabled veterans to and fromVA medical facilities for treatment. The Transportation Network is a clear example of veterans helping veterans. The DAV stepped in to meet a substantial communityneed when the federal government terminated its program that helped many veterans pay for transportationto VA medical facilities. The DAV has 189 HospitalService Coordinators around the country who coordinatethe transportation needs for disabled veterans.Use the
to contact your nearest HSC for informationor assistance. Please remember that the DAV Transporta-tion Network is staffed by volunteers; therefore, it is una- ble to cover every community. We hope we can helpyou.
