Contact Your City Councillor

HAF is spearheading a Contact Your Councillor campaign in a bid to document the views of Southampton City councillors on the issue of water fluoridation. Southampton City Councillors will be voting on whether or not to reject the SHAs fluoridation plans. The City Council is the most influential of all the councils within the proposed fluoridation area. They will take over responsibility for fluoridation when the SHA is abolished so it is vital that the public ask the following questions to the councillors who represent them: What are your views on water fluoridation? Do you think it is fair that the SHA can impose the scheme on local people who have shown overwhelming opposition? How will you vote in the forthcoming Full Council debate? HAF is compiling a document with contact details of city councillors arranged by ward (see attached). It includes notes about whether they voted for or against fluoridation in 2008; what their current views about the scheme are and how they intend to vote in the forthcoming debate.* Contact HAF for details of YOUR ward councillor if you are not sure (there are three councillors in every ward). We need to establish NOW the views of Southampton City councillors we are aiming for a complete list and would like members of the public to send us copies of any replies. When complete, we will have a very useful guide to the views of local councillors and where they stand on the important local issue of water fluoridation. It is your drinking water councillors have a moral obligation to vote to ensure that their constituents are not subjected to compulsory mass medication against their wishes. Remember they are dependent on YOUR vote.

*There will be a Council debate on whether or not to reject the SHAs fluoridation plans either on 13th July or 14th September when HAF will submit its petition. We will not know until the afternoon of 13th July whether the motion will be deferred which is possible due to pressure of other business and the restricted space available for the public in the temporary venue Sir James Matthews Building.
