Annotated Bibliography Israelis War of Independence "Survivors in Post-War Europe." ORT and the DP Camps: Home. Web. 05 July 2011. <http://dpcamps.ort.org/dp-stories/holocaust-survivors-in-post-war-europe>. Concentration camps were opened and the holocaust survivors free to go. Most of the millions of forced laborers and thousands of concentration camp inmates ended up in Germany. Needing a place for all the survivors to stay until they could return home they decided on displaced person camps and for them to be ran by UNRRA. The idea of the camps was to return the DP's back to their country's as quickly as possible. Most did not return home instead the mostly immigrated to other countries. DP camps were estimated to take about 6 months, but ended up going all the way up to 1957. During all the immigration and laws that were involved the Brichah movement started. The Brichah movement was organized to send Jews by ship illegally to Palestine. Boats were intercepted by British patrols and sent back to Germany. On May 9 1945 Germany surrendered and by July they had split the control over Germany into four hands. The Northwest corner was placed under British control, South was under American, East under Soviet, and the Southwest under French. In 1947 independence was finally declared in Isreal and most of all the camps were emptied. This article gives a good look into the numbers of DP's there was and where they went. It also tells about the things that were going on around these camps. ""Exodus 1947"" United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Web. 05 July 2011. <http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/es/article.php?ModuleId=10005419>. The ship named the "Exodus 1947" was originally a ship owned by the U.S and used as a passenger ship. The "Exodus 1947" was first sailed in 1928 and was known as the "President Warfield". The ship was intended for scrap metal but was bought by the Hagana and was to be used for illegal transportation for Jews. "Exodus 1947" sailed to France and back to Palestine with more than 4,500 Jews aboard only to be stopped by the British on the shore of Palestine. Passengers were forced onto other ships and sent back to France, where they refused to get off, and the French refused to use force. The British was forced to send them to Germany where they were put into DP camps there.

This article tells about the ship named the Exodus and what made it so historical compared to the many other ships that sailed. Isseroff, Ami. "UN General Assembly Resolution 181: Palestine Partition Plan of 1947." Middle East: MidEastWeb. Web. 05 July 2011. <http://www.mideastweb.org/181.htm>. Jewish immigration had been banned by British, and the want and need for a Jewish Independent state was ever growing. With the Jews not allowed to immigrate in, and the feuds between the Jews and Arabs growing he Haganah army was formed. In 1938 there were two branches formed off of it called the Irgun and the Lehi. For the most part the Haganah worked with and obeyed the British, until slowly they began to fight against them. Jewish illegal immigration through the Haganah began, bringing over 200,000 refugees on any boats they could find. Meanwhile the fight between the Jews and Arabs grew more violent. With things escalating the British decided they could no longer afford to be there and called on the UN to help. The decision to make a partition for the Jewish people and Arabs was in the making. On November 29, 1947 the UN voted and approved splitting Palestine into two separate states, with plan of leaving Jerusalem as an internationalized city. Palestinians and Arabs were outraged and immediately rejected the partition and began forming armies. This paper gives information on the events leading up to the UN Partition Resolution 181 and exactly what it had caused. Under the story is a text copy of the actual UN Partition Resolution 181.
