The Wisdom Behind the Lowering Gaze _ Magda Amer

The Wisdom Behind the Lowering Gaze by Dr. Magda Amer. Islam commands modesty for men and women. Modesty is manifested outwardly in the way one dresses.

The purpose for dressing conservatively is that the women may be recognized (as being chaste) and so they may not be abused. A believing man of sound heart will lower his gaze and stay clear of sin. however, if a man with ill will sets off to commit sin he will recognize the woman as chaste. the hijab therefore acts as a shield sending a signal loud and clear that the muslimah wants no part of an invitation to sin.
