I am placing this rare, 'signed' 72year old André de Dienes print upfor sale by the photographer whodiscovered Norma Jean Baker (Marilyn Monroe), along with thelaunch of this winter newsletter. There are less than 200 'signed'de Dienes prints left in the world, and this print pre-dates hisintroduction to Monroe byseveral years.ndré de Dienes was born in1913 in Transylvania (nowRomania). Following hismother's suicide he lefthome at 15 and traveledacross Europe, mostly byoot, ending up in Tunisia, here he learned to paintand bought his first camera,a 35mm Retina. In 1933 deDienes arrived in Paris tostudy art. He worked for thessociated Press until 1936,hen Parisian couturier Captain Molyneuxencouraged him to become aashion photographer. In1938, with the help of Esquire magazine editor rnold Gingrich, heemigrated to the US andsettled in New York workingor Esquire, Vogue & Life. In1944 he moved his studio toHollywood and met MarilynMonroe in 45, the onset of her tragic fairytale life inmodeling and acting. Theyere briefly engaged and deDienes went on to generatewenty-four books on nudespublished in the US, Englandand Germany. He is alsocredited with the mostmagazine covers in theorld featuring photographsof Monroe. The artist isidely traded; The ArtFactauction house database has192 de Dienes auctions

orldwide, and a search onrtNet produces a total of 113 past auctions.

This ice study is from my IceFallEssay and depicts a surrealistic, natural setting from my series
"Upper DelawareRiver". IceFall
features anincredible 16 foot icestructure that literally ends witha
"frozen splash"
against theground
.
This magnificent eye-catching formation was found alongthe Upper Delaware River of thewestern Catskills, a nationalprotected area by the Dept. of theInterior.
IceFall"
is a 10x8" gelatinsilver print on double weight glossyfiber paper that was handmade in atraditional wet darkroom.Having grown up in "TornadoAlley" I have been fascinated sincechildhood with natural phenomena, including the austere, stately beautyof ice. It was my good fortune thatduring the Winter Olympics inVancouver that a west coastcollector found favor with thisimage to add to his collectionof winter landscapes.

Ramona Jan trained withexponents of the School of Visual Arts, Art Students Leagueand Harvard Art School. Her oilpaintings are created in a subtlestylistic manner that expressesher individualism and clearlysets her work apart fromAs such these atmospheric attributescontinue to lure collectors to her Pennsylvania studio asking for more of what could be coined as
"diffusionism",
asoft-focus technique Jan employs that isreminiscent of, yet entirely different than,"pointillism". In her own words, "I do notuse models as many flower painters do.Instead, I must recall from memory their beauty. When I paint still life flowers, Ienter the world of my garden. Of course,my garden is alive and active in thesummer but in the winter I cannot put myhand into the soil and so must apply it tocanvas instead. During the hours of painting I go into a dream-like state and
