INTRODUCTION Organic agriculture is blooming globally with the wide scope for producing safer food for human consumption and to maintain healthier environment. At present, knowledge and information on organic agriculture is very limited in Nepal. Therefore, the Conference will focus on trends and sustainability of organic agriculture in Nepal. Policy makers, planners, researchers, development workers, students and entrepreneurs from government and non-governmental organizations, universities and private sectors will be the participants of the Conference. The forum will help to congregate and explore the scope of organic agriculture and its importance. It will also offer the mechanism and opportunities for information dissemination on organic agriculture and act as a platform for advocacy and lobbying. THE ORGANIZERS The Conference on Organic Agriculture: Trends and Sustainability is jointly organized by Society of Agricultural Scientists, Nepal (SAS-N), Nepal Horticulture Society (NHS), Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS), and Sustainable Agriculture Development Program, Nepal (SADPNepal).

SAS-N is a professional organization that serves as a common forum for the agricultural scientists and researchers working in various agricultural organizations. NHS is a professional organization of Nepalese horticulturists established with the purpose of promoting national interest in horticulture. IAAS is a public agricultural institute under Tribhuvan University in Nepal for academic education in agriculture and animal sciences. It offers Bachelor, Masters and PhD level education in agriculture. SADP-Nepal is a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) established with the overall goal to promote sustainable use of natural resources in agriculture through participatory research and development in organic agriculture. OBJECTIVES To document available information and technologies on organic agriculture. To create the forum for sharing knowledge and experiences in research, development and practices on organic agriculture. To identify and disseminate the good organic practices and success stories on organic agriculture. To share knowledge and experience on organic agriculture with international partners. VENUE AND ACCOMODATION The Conference will be held at IAAS Campus, Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal. Accommodation will be arranged at IAAS, nearby research stations and hotels in Bharatpur. Room rates will vary depending on the types of the room. Local transportation will be made available. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM The scientific program will include contributed papers by invited speakers, oral and poster presentations and plenary. Papers are invited on the following thematic areas: (i) policy and planning, (ii) technology and knowledge, (iii) market and economics, (iv) health, nutrition and food security, (v) climate change, and (vi) social aspects. Abstracts of the papers will be published and distributed prior to the conference. The proceedings will be published post conference. ABSTRACT Abstract with title of paper, name of author(s) and affiliation(s) should be submitted in MS Word file (doc version) via electronic media to one of the contacts given below not later than August 31, 2011 to ensure its inclusion in the Abstract book. A Scientific Committee will decide by the end of September if the abstract is selected as an oral or poster presentation unless opted for a poster presentation. The text of abstract should not exceed 350 words, and should not contain tables or figures. Indicate preferred session for presentation and type of presentation (poster or oral). FULL PAPER Full paper should be submitted in MS Word file (doc version) via electronic media along with two hard copies to one of the contacts given below prior to the conference. Please follow the guidelines for

paper writing as given for Nepal Agriculture Research Journal of SAS in the website: www.narc.gov.np. POSTER Poster should be prepared in AD form, 120 x 85 cm upright (portrait). An electronic copy of the poster should be submitted to one of the contacts given below. Make sure that the poster should be readable when reduced to A4 size to include in the Conference Proceedings.
