Dr. SeussThe 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins on thesame day. It's hilarious to see the kids faces asthey notice that they have the samecharacters--namely, Bartholomew and theking. ~KarenMrs. Stamp's Kindergarten  Dr. SeussBartholomew and the Oobleck We read thisstory every year as part of Read AcrossAmerica week... and, of course, make our ownoobleck! If you've never made it, it's aboutequal parts cornstarch and water (feel free toadd green food coloring, or leave it out). It isthe coolest compound since it takes on thecharacteristics of both a liquid and a solid. Thekiddos will want to play with it all day--it's somuch fun!
Dr. SeussWe read Daisy-Head Maisy for Read AcrossAmerica week. The students use a paper plate, yarn and construction paper to create a modelof their heads. Then we add a daisy die-cut tothe top. They label themselves Daisy-Head John,Daisy-Head Sarah, etc. Really cute! ~Becki
Dr. SeussWe also read The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. We werelearning about ecosystems and extinction. Wetalked about what the Lorax did and whyanimals had to leave. We discussed cause andeffects, then we rewrote the story!Amber
Dr. Seuss as LeSig, TheoWe read Ten Apples Up On Top. Students thencolor a picture of a child to match themselves.I print pictures of their faces for theirportrait. Then students draw a number from abag (numbers are 1-10) and they color cut andglue that number of apples "up on top" of theirheads. This makes a darling hall display with thetitle "Kindergarten Has Apples Up On Top." Ialso post a color copy of the front cover of thebook.Darlene
