Wush ... it have been long time not to tweak the Linux especially ubuntu, I’ve been asked to makea data server in my new office :D .... think of it, searching, finally..!!! Alhamdulillah, and this servercan also be accessed directly using server name (hostname-it) better than to use its IP address(ex: 192.168.0.xxx - 192.168.0.xxx)assumptions: samba is installed properly ... this is used Ubuntu 9.10if not, do these step
sudo apt-get install samba smbclientsudo apt-get install smbfs
After that we configure the machineThe first step is building the location of the file server
 mkdir /media/data/serverdata
Create a group in advance
useradd-s /sbin/nologin adminkuuseradd-s /sbin/nologin-G adminku dedisetiaji
sign-s, is to determine the user to enter into our linux system ... and-G is to enter a user "dedisetiaji'into the group" adminku "After that we create a password for each user
smbpasswd-a dedisetiaji
after it enter the password .... (do not forget it!!!)Now set to file server that could enter the admin group is included ..
chmod-R 077 5 /media /data/serverdatachown-R adminku: adminku/media/data/serverdata
(0775 = user security, if adminku: adminku, adminku are ahead for the definition of the user,-R forsubfolders and files contained in subfolders in the user security, adminku behind the group ofusers. Using adminku just let the user create a user later if which includes the group adminku canbe directly connected with his samba-server data)
After that we have to configure the samba file, which is in
 pico /etc/samba/smb.conf
Global Note on its ... change the security of a user's shareThen create a configuration file which we will file sharing at the very bottom of the configuration file
[Serverdata]comment = file server path = /media/data/serverdatawritable = yes browseable = yescreate mask = 0775 mod = 0775 force create mod = 0775 force directory
To access the samba server by using his name mis serverdata .... we have to edit the file namely:1. / etc/hosts
 pico /etc/hosts
change the host name was originally into serverdata2. /etc/hostname
change the name in the serverdataThe final step is to restart our samba with the command
/etc/init.d/networking restart/etc/init.d/samba restart
Now with the other komptuer eg Windows .. on the address tab in windows explorer typeserverdata .. if the configuration is made is correct dialog box will appear to enter a username and
