About This Opportunity
Provide guidance and support for Target and its subsidiaries by utilizing your expertise in Law,Government Affairs, Brand or Corporate Risk. Use your knowledge to assist and direct our business, andinterpret the laws that govern Target stores, Distribution Centers and corporate locations.
Responsible for managing the public policy agenda of Target and its operating companies within ageographic region, key states or locales. Proactively identify key public policy issues and emerging trends at the state and local levels
Establish, develop and maintain a network of key members and staff, and agencies to advocateon Target's behalf on policies that could influence the growth and competitiveness of thecompany
In writing and in person, communicate the impact of proposed and pending legislation/regulationsand law on Target to policymakers
Provide timely responsive and proactive information regarding Target's public policy positions andinnovative initiatives
Advocate on behalf of the company at state capitols, city council meetings, planning commissionhearings and other public venues in coordination with corporate and stores organization teammembers, as appropriate
Facilitate grassroots activities, including calls to action, field advocate deployment , planning meetand greets, making the necessary attendee and venue arrangements, and attending functions.
Establish and maintain regular communication with Government Affairs Issue Managers
Manage state retail association partnerships and involvement
Collaborate with other leaders as needed to establish cross functional teams
4-7 years of experience in business or related field
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Solid decision making ability/Independent action
Ability to conceptualize and manage research and analysis on priority policy issues
Ability to apply retail knowledge to the analysis of public policy issues.
Ability to analyze and react to political trends at both the state and national level
Strong oral and written communication skills
Proven ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership
Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners and form cohesive plansand processes across diverse business groups
